As CFC’s cross-country Annual General Meeting (AGM) tour rolls along, the past month has underscored the strength of collaboration across our sector. CEO Michael Laliberté and Board Chair Tim Klompmaker, along with provincial board members, have travelled coast to coast, connecting with provincial boards and farmers to share updates, discuss priorities, and look ahead to the opportunities and challenges facing Canadian chicken farming.
These discussions focused on the launch of CFC’s new three-year strategic plan — a roadmap centred on growth, strengthening supply management, enhancing our brand, supporting farms, and ensuring organizational effectiveness. Across each stop, there was a consistent emphasis on building trust with Canadians through transparent communication, supported by strong programs and credible data, including the latest Life Cycle Assessment results demonstrating continued environmental progress.
At the same time, key issues such as international trade pressures, the need for enforcement on spent fowl imports, and addressing underproduction were top of mind. These priorities reinforce the importance of working together as a unified national sector to protect supply management and ensure long-term stability.
This momentum carried into the national CFC AGM on March 24, where provincial leaders, staff, industry partners, and the new cohort of Young Farmers came together in Ottawa. The meeting highlighted both the progress made and the work ahead.
