 Reporting to the Director, Market Information and Systems, the Market and Industry Analyst provides timely, accurate and relevant information and analysis to CFC’s Board of Directors, staff, provincial boards, and external stakeholders to help them make the right decisions on production volumes and production-related policies.  

Key Responsibilities 

Market Information and Analysis  

  • Collects, distributes and analyses national and international data relevant to the Canadian chicken industry  
  • Responds to internal and external data and information requests  
  • Coordinates provincial production reporting  
  • Verifies accuracy and completeness of interprovincial movement data as reported by provincial boards and licensees and prepares reports and provide reports to stakeholders and external auditors as needed  
  • Provides statistical and analytical support to other CFC units when needed (e.g. Trade and Policy unit, Finance unit, Public Affairs unit, Food Safety and Animal Health unit, Animal Care & Research unit, Allocation Policies & Procedures Committee)  
  • Liaises with provincial boards, government departments and agencies (ex. Statistics Canada, AAFC, Global Affairs Canada) and various industry stakeholders to improve the relevance, accuracy and timeliness of market data  
  • Distributes weekly/monthly/periodical summaries of key market indicators (wholesale prices, imports, storage stocks, quota utilization) to industry stakeholders  
  • Prepares PowerPoint market information presentations for CFC Board of Directors meetings  
  • Assists Unit Director in preparing summary statistics information and allocation formula for CFC allocation meetings and drafts the quota order and rationale letter to FPCC   
  • Assists Unit Director in preparing data and the report for participation in the Canadian Hatching Egg Producers’ Advisory Committee  
  • Maintains the Nielsen retail data database, and analyzes trends in retail sales of chicken and other meats  
  • Works with DirectLink data and Statistics Canada data on analyzing foodservice sales and data  
  • Maintains the market information section on CFC’s extranet to ensure data is up to date and accurate  
  • Monitors the alternative protein market   
  • Provides technical or industry-related support for third-party consultants on CFC market research projects. 

 Publications  

  • Edits CFC’s chicken data booklet (annual publication)  
  • Contributes to the market watch section in CFC’s annual report  
  • Writes articles for The Inside Coop Newsletter and Directors Update according to market conditions and research needs  

 Other 

  • Participates in the Allocation Policies & Procedures Committee, prepares documents and presentations related to allocation policies, and provides analysis and prepares documents related to base allocation setting and medium-term growth target setting  
  • With the Unit Director, investigates ways and tools to streamline existing business processes  

 

Carries out all other duties as assigned by the Director, Market Information & Systems and/or the Chief Executive Officer 

 

Competencies and experience 

Education, Competencies and Experience 

The Market and Industry Analyst position is located in Ottawa, Ontario (in office).  

 The role recommends bilingual (English/French) capabilities, strong organizational and critical thinking, and attention to detail. We are seeking an individual that has a creative mind when tackling problems, along with a willingness to learn and adopt new and innovative approaches or tools.  

 

Education:  

  • Degree in economics, agriculture economics, public policy or a related field  

 Competencies/Experience:  

  • Extensive experience in market analysis and statistics and/or economics   
  • Excellent statistical and data analysis skills  
  • Knowledge of Canada’s poultry, agriculture and food processing sector an asset  
  • Strong writing skills  

 Language Skills:  

  • Fluently bilingual, English and French, an asset  

 Computer skills:  

  • Advanced knowledge/skills in Microsoft Excel   
  • Experience with creating dashboards, graphs and reports  
  • Knowledge and experience of SQL and statistical analysis and related software such as R or Python, and Business Intelligence software, such as Tableau, Power BI, Alteryx, or similar is an asset  

 Travel:  

  • Occasional travel, on an as-needed basis
