Raised by a Canadian Farmer On-Farm Food Safety Program

Our mandatory Raised by a Canadian Farmer On-Farm Food Safety Program and Raised by a Canadian Farmer Animal Care Program are what set out the regulations and guidelines for the care and handling of the birds our farmers raise. There are many factors that go into making these programs work to ensure credibility and compliance. Click here for more information.

The On-Farm Food Safety Program emphasizes animal health, cleanliness and safety throughout each step of the production cycle, and follows strict biosecurity measures to protect animal health and prevent flock infections from outside sources. These mandatory rules govern chicken farms from coast to coast and include top-notch requirements for biosecurity, disease prevention, feed and water management and testing, along with all the record keeping necessary to prove that farmers are adhering to the process.

Canadian chicken farms undergo an annual audit for both the Animal Care Program and the On-Farm Food Safety Program.

Chicken Farmers of Canada has undergone a 3rd party audit and has now received full recognition by the Canadian Food Inspection Agency for our Raised by a Canadian Farmer On-Farm Food Safety Program – the first commodity to do so (March 2013). Chicken Farmers of Canada is the first commodity organization in Canada to achieve this level of government recognition for the effective and consistent implementation of the Raised by a Canadian Farmer On-Farm Food Safety Program that promotes the production of safe food at the farm level. This achievement reflects the commitment of all chicken farmers to implement and maintain a comprehensive national on-farm food safety program. This success could not have been achieved without the active support and effort of all participants and stakeholders.

We do all of these things to make sure that we are providing Canadians with safe, fresh, high-quality chicken so that they have confidence in the food they are buying for their families.

Safe. Fresh. Well Cared for. That’s Canadian chicken.
