Cindy Lochert

Cindy Lochert believes that it is important to maintain a close relationship with the Canadian consumer. Her Ontario farm is family-run to ensure the highest level of quality control.

“We have a successful industry here in Canada and one of our strengths is that we stand together even though we’ve been challenged for years,” says Cindy Lochert. “It’s a solid system, very stable.”

The Lochert farm is located in Belwood, Ontario, just north of Guelph. It is only one hour away from the feed mill, the hatchery and the processing plant. Their location is beneficial both in keeping some of their costs down and keeping their transportation drivers happy.

“It is important to maintain a close relationship
with the Canadian consumer.”

“The distance to travel is so short that they can get a couple of runs in during their shift,” says Cindy.

Cindy, her husband Dean and their four children love living in the country and find chicken farming helps them fulfill that dream. In addition to helping with the operation of the family business, Dean works full-time off the farm, which poses a challenge when maintaining the balance between work, the farm and family. With Dean working full-time, Cindy has to take on a larger role with the farm.

“Everything always seems to happen when Dean is at work,” she says with a laugh. “I’ve had to learn the industry quickly, but our reps are good and I’m not afraid to ask questions.”

The Locherts’ farm will continue to strive to be high-quality and well-run, providing Canadians with the best possible product.
